The suspected killer of Yetunde Price, older sister of Venus and Serena Williams is white. Does this negate everything I said in “Enough of This?” No. However it does put an interesting spin on things, if Aaron Michael Hammer did kill Price. From the Los Angeles Times (registration required):
Hammer, who according to court records has a string of burglary convictions, was one of six people detained at the homicide scene. He is one of only a few white members of the predominantly black Southside Crips, one of Compton's most notorious gangs, law enforcement sources said. [SNIP]
[Hammer’s uncle, Dale] Nelson said Hammer grew up in Compton, a mixed African American and Latino city, and had always struggled for acceptance.
White kid grows up in Compton and wants to be accepted. To do this, he joins a notorious, predominately black gang. What does that gang specialize in? Dealing drugs and killing black folks.
Wrap your mind around that one, folks. I’m trying to and I think I’m in need of an aspirin.
