According to what I heard on the radio, over one fourth of the entire population of Spain has been holding vigil for the victims of the terror attacks of yesterday. Is it true? Yes, it is. One fourth of the whole nation is out in force; in nearly unendurable grief, pissed to the hilt and--heartening to watch—seemingly unafraid. Likely, most of the other three-fourths had unavoidable obligations, are invalid or were injured in the blasts.
Could you imagine what would have happened had one fourth of the population of the US held similar vigils across the country in the immediate wake of *our* greatest enemy attack?

ETA maintains that they didn’t do the deed and the fax purported to be from Al Qaeda, taking responsibility for the attacks and sent to a London-based Arabic language newspaper has been judged to be fraudulent.

As I mentioned to Michele, I know firsthand that some on the left are calculating that this latest mountain of bodies of non-combatants will “help Bush.” The fact that this idea could actually form, take hold and be verbalized without shame gives me an idea of the mindset of some.
Sheesh! Let John Kerry dispense with the BS and come up with a plan to keep terrorists out of our collective backyard that works better than President Bush’s does and I might vote for him! You know why I would? Because not one bit of this Democrat/Republican/Liberal/Conservative conundrum matters if we’re all dead. Go on and on about Vietnam, AWOL, chickenhawks, homosexual marriage, etc. Do you know what it means when you’re talking about all of these controversies, yelling about them, shouting others down about them and slinging ad hominem arguments galore?
It means that you are breathing. It also means that you’re living in one of those freaky things called a democratic-republic. Enjoy it and come up with better ways to defend it or stop whining about the way others do it.
