Remorseless

"There is no doubt that Mexicans, filled with dignity, willingness and ability to work, are doing jobs that not even blacks want to do there in the United States.”
--Mexican President Vicente Fox

In answer to La Shawn, of course President Fox is a racist! Aside from the statement being the truth when not considered within its context, people from other countries feel much freer to make racist statements about perceived inferior groups than do Americans. And unlike most Americans, the rest of the world refuses to feel guilty about its racism. They’d rather beat up on America for it. That’s one of the many dirty little secrets of the world. Don’t believe me? Look at these statements found on a Chinese web forum regarding Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice:

"How come the United States selects a female chimpanzee as Secretary of State?"

"This black woman thinks rather a lot of herself."

"She's so ugly she's losing face. Even a dog would be put off its dinner while she's being fed."

There was not one bit of uproar about the “uncivilized” Chinese and their “horrid racism,” not to mention their ill manners. Why not? Because the Chinese wouldn’t give a hairy fig, that’s why. And neither does the Mexican President, nor do countless other world leaders and officials that let racism flow freely from their lips. As a matter of fact, President Fox's remark was mild in comparison to all too many others, especially when the subject is Jews.

By the way, President Fox wants his country’s “inferiors,” that is, those Mexicans of more Indian heritage, to migrate to this country. Why do you think his government encourages illegal emigration? Better than what many other leaders have done with their “inferiors,” don’t you think?

(Thanks to Dennis Prager)

UPDATE: Solomon concludes that Vicente is no Jamie.

When on the world stage, however, we Americans are viewed as the ultimate racists. Funny isn't it that no one ever mentions the rampant racism that is bred in the rest of the world while the U.S. at least attempts to right wrongs made against those of mixed heritage here.

By the way, I love the new picture!

I've worked with several natives of India who have had problems with racism while working in the United States. The problems, however, never occurred with Americans; they occurred when dealing with the sales organizations in Europe, Australia, etc. Their statements about racism and the United States were all the same: there are some racists here, of all colors, but racism is a rare exception. In other countries, it's either the norm, or an exception that isn't so rare.

THANK YOU!!! for pointing out the racism of Mexican society and leadership. Many Americans are completely unaware of what's going on down there.
What we see of Mexicans are those of Indian heritage (the "lawnmower man"). Look at Pres. Fox or any others of the Mexican "elite"; the office workers in Mexico city. White folks.
Unlike the USA, Mexico has a very wide chasm between the haves and have-nots; a concrete ceiling above the have-nots ensures that they remain have-nots. Mexico has a choice: Clean up its economic and racial act and allow the middle class to expand (which would include Indians), or continue what it has been doing for years, simply export the "undesirables"; actually a form of apartheid.
It is time to turn up the heat on Mexico to reform both its economic and racial policies. Mexico has the natural resources and a manpower base that is obviously willing to work very hard; there is neither a reason nor an excuse that it should be in the condition it is in. A free-market capitalist system with equal opportunities is the best system of wealth redistribution known to man.

I saw documentary on PBS about WWII saying that the US thought that the Japanese were inferior to
us. They did not tell that the Japanese thought that they were the uniform superior yellow race with Hirohito descented from a God. Japan invaded China and did terrible atrocities and also in Korea.
James M. Barber

Yes, they did. There are a lot of "superiority complexes" in that part of the world, which supports my point.

Speaking of Chinese racism: For the longest time over in Asia the Chinese sold a brand of toothpaste that featured a "black sambo" type face on it, with big white teeth; as if that weren't bad enough, they also called it "Darkie" brand toothpaste in English. After much protests from the ex-pat community, the company relented and changed the name from Darkie to Darlie, but they kept the caricature mascot and they left the name alone in Chinese, which is still "hei ren" or "black person."

Very good point J.

The illegals from Mexico and American tourists do so much to prop up the Mexican economy.

I think I'll be vacationing in Africa from now on. (I know- tough choice for me. ;)

When I was living in China, I encountered a ceral box decorated on the back with a map of the world. The map was filled with cartoon characters showing fairly classical stereotypes of what sort of people were supposed to live in each place. In England, for example, it was a gentleman with a monacle and a bowler hat; in the United States, a cowboy.

In Africa, it was a jet-black savage, complete with bone through the nose, roasting a white missionary in a pot. Not just savages, then: Cannibals!

We lived in a residence hall where foreigners were grouped. A lot of West Africans were there, many of them French speakers -- they were the only Africans I could talk to, but I enjoyed several conversations with them. They were patient with my poor French.

One of the regular themes of conversation was how sad they were in China, because no one would talk to them. Chinese women wouldn't even look at them, as if they were too horrible to gaze on. Even merchants would have only but little to do with them when they came to buy food.

Yet the Chinese I asked about this asserted that there was no problem of racism in China -- unlike in America! -- because they had no black people. The problem, I suppose, was not the attitude. It was that black people are present in your world.

I grew up in the backcountry of Georgia, and occasionally encountered the rougher sort of American racist. But I never saw or heard anything like this until I went abroad.

What has Bush or Condi Rice said about the comments?

Having traveled around a lot of the world, international racism makes anything outside of a Klan rally, a Nation of Islam meeting, or a get together by the mECha/Free Aztalon boys look mild. Speaking of the last...

Juliette, few people here in the US realize that Mexico is at war with us. This war started in the 18oo's and it has never really ended. It has only gotten more and mopre fierce in recent years as the Mexicans have gotten away with more and more hostile acts without us responding because people here do not realize the war is happening.

The Mexicans have a very simple goal and the goal is this: At the end of the military part of this conflict Mexico lost what is now Texas and the province of Aztalan which comprises everything from El Paso to San Diego and north to the bottom of Oregon. They want it back. They beleive that it is not the corruption of the (white European and deeply racist) minority that is robbing the country blind (they have lots of riches and never share with their brown-skinned poor) but that "EL Norte Americano Gringo's" have stolen their countries' future and the only way to get it back is thru invasion and by screwing us over using our own democratic institutions to take back what is theirs.

Juliette, if we don't soon wake up to this situation we are goint to lose a big part of our country without ever firing a shot.
We should build a wall with machine guns nests every 1/4 mile BEHIND the minefields!!

I don't think Fox even realized his comments would be taken as offensive when he said them. He understands the historic trend of immigrants in this country attaining upward mobility on the backs of Blacks. Currently in our communities, the Koreans sell us our beauty supplies, Arabs own the convenience stores and gas stations, and the Indians own the cheap "hourly" hotels. If not for Native Americans, we would be at the bottom of the economic totem pole.

The Chinese called Rice a chimpanzee? Well, leftists call Dubya a chimp, so maybe it is a compliment.
Fox says he was misinterpreted.
Sure. And I'm a monkey's uncle

Perhaps the complete annexation of Mexico should be up for discussion, followed by the deportation of Vicente and the rest of the eurotrash. And yes, I do believe that we are at war but that that conflict is taking place with those in our own country that want to kick over the melting pot.

I spent all of a day and a half in London, and encountered a public incident of racism the likes of which I had never encountered in the United States in 30 years. In Greenwich Park, I noticed two or three boys on bikes. They were between 10 and 12 years old, and they were yelling at three adult: South Asian-looking men. They told them to "go home and ruin your own country," among other charming recommendations. I could not believe what I was seeing. The men did not respond, just looking at the boys with a mixture of anger and resignation as they biked on by.

Vicente Fox and the Mexican elites want the border open in order to keep its peons from revolting and overthrowing that corrupt govt. Sending them here, having them take millions back to Mexico, all that is a safety valve that allows the elites to stay in power and keep the nation's wealth in their own hands.

I read a piece over at No-pasaran entitled "The Frenchman Who Lectured Me About America's Race Problems " (Sorry, no direct link, scroll down or search for keyword)

I won't spoil the punchline by posting it here.

any careful observer knows of the dreadful racism of many nations which pride themselves on being morally superior to us. The experiences of black soccer players in most European countries are legend. Colin Powell is on record, many years ago, as saying he was much worse off while he worked in England than when back home in the states (in terms of racist treatment at the hands of natives). And even in nominally black countries, such as Haiti, everyone knows that skin color is the primary determinant of success in life. Lighter colors get more opportunities and better treatment, on the whole.

and yes, there is absolutely NO shame in racism-- unless you're American.

It's a travesty.

I haven't talked to Chinese about how they perceive blacks, but in helping a student with her English I learned they think Caucasians are quite ugly because our eyes are "sunken." Also, we all look alike.

Stupid is as stupid does to quote Forest Gump who seems smarter than all of us.

Fox dises blacks. The Chinese makes ignorant remarks about Condi Rice, and Robert Novak just last weekend compared the possibility of Republicans in the US Senate reaching a compromise with Democrats on judicial nominees to "going to a concentration camp and picking out which people go to the death chamber;"

Ash: I’ll remember that the next time I’m in Germany and the toilet-cleaning woman cal1s me a “schmutzige Negerin” or a big, ugly, drunk doofus tells me and my friends who are also black that “Ihr Undeutsch stinkt.” Feel free to use Babelfish for translations, if you need to.

For those of you too lazy to use Babelfish.

schmutziga: dirty. I'll let everyone's imagination fill in the rest.

Ihr Undeutsch stinkt: (Literally) Y'all non-German's stink.

Living in Texas, I see a lot of the racism between the Mexican's of European descent and those of Indian descent. For those of you who doubt it, look at any picture of Mexican government officials. They all look very Spanish.
