"There's no excuse. The money we spend in one year in Iraq would pay for 20 years of helping Africa."--Madeline Albright, Secretary of State during the Clinton Administration
What a coincidence! The Dafur genocide--along with every other evil in this world--started on that magical date of January 20, 2001! /sarcsm
People like Former Secretary of State Albright assume that we unwashed have memories too short to remember that
Gilbert Lewthwaite and Gregory Kane of the Baltimore Sun bought slaves to prove a point about the conditions in the Sudan in 1997. Albright did not raise a finger to help.(Emphasis mine.)The world turned a blind eye, as it did in Rwanda and Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Iraq and every other hellhole in the world.
With her presumed influence, Madame Secretary could be part of the solution instead of part of the peanut gallery. However, that would entail swallowing enough pride to be able to say "we were too afraid to act and we allowed the situation(s) to get worse. Don't do the same."
Meanwhile, a drop of urine accidentally touches a book an there is international outrage and caterwauling about the "evil Americans."
