So I wake up this morning to find Osama bin Laden’s ill-favored image—taken in years past--plastered on my TV screen. Dead? No such luck (well, no report of that this morning, at any rate). Just giving the West a shout-out (audio only) after a thirteen-month absence.
"The new operations of al-Qaida has not happened not [SIC] because we could not penetrate the security measures. It is being prepared and you'll see it in your homeland very soon." [SNIP]"If your desire for peace, stability and reconciliation was true, here we have given you the answer to your call."
Quite an old tactic, that; offer your enemy peace when your back is against the wall. Osama needs to refine his game; issuing threats and waving a not-so-big stick in the same transmission seem nonsensical. I’m sure, however, that bin Laden doesn’t expect the Americans to buy the truce angle. It’s just a way to look good to the faithful and to the peace-at-any-cost types. "See? He really wants peace!!" Osama and his friend Zawahiri need find a less transparent song to—
Wait. Where’s Zawahiri again?
