What Becomes A Legend Most?

Muhammad Speaks...and spills his guts about spilling blood--or, as many suspect, his egotistical fantasies of same.

WASHINGTON, March 14, 2007 – Suspected al qaeda operative Khalid Sheikh Muhammad has admitted masterminding the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks as well as the World Trade Center bombing in 1993.

“I was responsible for the 9/11 operation, from A to Z,” an interpreter read from Muhammad’s statement to the Combatant Status Review Tribunal on March 10 in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

The tribunal was an administrative hearing to determine only whether Muhammad could be designated as an enemy combatant. Muhammad used the opportunity to submit, through an interpreter, a two-part personal statement with 38 terrorism-related admissions.

James Taranto lists thirty-one of the plots. The "high"lights include 9/11, the 1993 WTC bombing, the 2002 Bali bombing, the Shoe Bomber attempt and the 2002 beheading of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who Muhammad claims to have murdered personally.

I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl, in the city of Karachi, Pakistan. For those who would like to confirm, there are pictures of me on the Internet holding his head.

There are several less notorious items on the list, but Muhammad also provides the tribunal with a "wishlist" which includes the planned assassinations of former Presidents Carter and Clinton, the late Pope John Paul II and a litany of prospective attacks on western targets around the world, with many of the attacks involving the use of aircraft. It seems to me that, since Muhammad knows that he's probably going down for--at the very least--9/11, he might as well go out looking like the biggest, baddest jihadi this side of Osama. After all, it's the infidel body-count that count to people with Muhammad's mindset.

And confessing to stacking up a mountain of infidel bodies--and planning to kill more--lays the foundation of Muhammad's earthly legend. Part of the purpose is to spur on his fellow Islamists but it's the smaller part. The larger purpose is this: to make himself look big in the eyes of his fellow terrorists around the globe. And, after the American infidels execute him, the legend's construction will be complete.
