Did Foer Lie?

In an interview with ABC last week, TNR editor Frank Foer said that he had "talked to one of the members of [Beauchamp's FOB Falcon] unit to confirm the woman, a female contractor"--referring to the existence of a disfigured woman at that location who was allegedly harassed by Scott Beauchamp and friend at FOB Falcon in Iraq. What did Foer mean by this?

Because if the harassment actually occurred at Camp Buehring in Kuwait, why didn't Foer mention this then?

UPDATE: It turns out that Michael Goldfarb figured out a couple of days ago that that the existence of a "melted lady" at FOB Falcon was bogus via an email from Marine Reservist Matt Sanchez, who is at Falcon right now in a civilian capacity as an embedded blogger.

Still I think that the fact that Foer said that the "woman was confirmed" speaks to either dishonesty or an over-all sloppiness--one borne of an eagerness to believe Beauchamp's stories of military depravity; an alleged depravity that was intended to be used as part of the larger indictment against this war and all wars--well at least the ones initiated by Republicans.

"The woman is confirmed" is such an odd, tortured turn of phrase. I can't help but read it as a wriggle.
