Sleep Soundly

...while guys like the Marine Poet watch our country's back. SSgt Lawrence Dean, USMC, will re-enlist in February.

(Thanks to Hot Air)

Comments

Yep. I am still married, so he is for some other lady.

Le sigh.

Put him in a movie, Hollywood!

I'll bet this Marine would be one of the first to say: Ah, we're not really quote watching America's back unquote since America was in no danger to begin with from Iraq, nor is it now, in any way, shape or form.

But truth isn't "hoo-hah" enough for the US, so once again, the truth is utterly beside the point. Bring this guy and the rest home from this bad and overrun joke of a 'war.'

Thank you for your opinion, Schlomo; informed or otherwise.

Oh informed, please quite rather informed, actually.

Thank you.

Well you can float me some legitimate links tomorrow. Suggested topics: history of Iraq, Saddam Hussein's rise to power w/USA involvement, CIA/MI6/Mossad, etc. intelligence reports on WMD in Iraq, Saddam and Kuwait, Saddam's use of WMD in eighties, Saddam and UNSCOM, Saddam's pattern of behavior wrt to international relations, Ayatollah Khomeini and Iraq, MEK and Iraq...

For starters.

I'm going to shut down comments for the night, but, rest assured, they'll be open in the morning. See you tomorrow.

We're still waiting to see how my fellow soldiers have "the country's back" vis-a-vis Iraq. What danger is Iraq or Iraqis to Americans in America, or Americans anywhere in the world, as far as that goes.

'splain that one, Lucy.

No, honey. That's not how it works here. I call the tune, not you. You can either dance or not. But if you don't, I'll give your comments the attention that they deserve.

Yo, Schlomo

Let me inform you: Abu Abbas.

He's dead. You're not.

But he was alive and quite well in Baghdad in 2003, until Guess Who showed up. Now thank the nice soldiers for watching your back and go back to sleep.

Ben

Baldi -- thanks for the post.

S., sadly, is of the "Germany/Korea/Afghanistan wasn't bothering us, so why bother?" camp, which was quite fashionable in the 'teens, if I recall. A history teacher (!) at our school uses quotes from WEB DuBois, selectively, to promote pacifism now, I suppose in the spirit of those Woodrow Wilson non-interventionist years.

Of course, two World Wars, and untold invasions and genocides and (how quickly we forget the insanity and evil) a few murderers kidnapping planeloads of people and using them as human missiles have since -- so I think -- put non-interventionism to bed for awhile.

But those of S.'s ilk will soldier on, picking at ONE thread of the whole scene, ignoring the other motivations for action.

Thank God there are more broad-minded people in power, and less of the narrow-minded, who think Bush WANTS bloodshed and war.

Insane.

My thanks to all the soldiers -- even and especially to those who may not agree with the policy, but who shoulder their load and so their job well anyways.

Cheers,

Almost comical moment:

Talking Head: What draws you back into the Marines?

SSgt Dean: (stunned silence)

One imagines that SSgt Dean was stunned by the foolishness of the question.

What a waste of a blog. And to think this was "a day job," compared to thousands of other blogs with 40 articles and links daily, while THOSE people also had day jobs the whole time. A joke.

There is NO reason that Americans are in Iraq, and since you can't furnish one, the lame game takes over. Expected and executed. Way to play along, as we knew you could.

I work with Marines daily and to a person (man or woman), they consider the Iraq war a pile of crap and the perps (bush, cheney, wolfowitz, perle, feith, libby, abrams, edelman) should be behind bars for DECADES.

Oh yeah, where's the 2.3 trillion (with a "T") that was missing from our DoD, announced on Sep 10, 2001? Wasn't that the same day, the day before the fateful day, that the Army War College released a report claiming that the israeli mossad "could launch an attack on the US and have Arabs blamed for it" any time they want? By George, I think it was.

You don't have the right to call me honey. Get some integrity and that might change, however.

It seems what you did in the military prepared you to be a bull$hitter and staller. Nice going, Queenie.

Realizing you won't post this since it runs counter (has truth) to most of what's on here, I defy you to say that you really did actually work in intelligence, per your bio, considering that you only look at one side of things. That is MIGHTY bad intel analysis, for sure.

Cut Israel Off
by Charley Reese

It is long past time for American politicians to quit carrying water for the state of Israel and its powerful U.S. lobby. Congress' craven obedience to the lobby is a disgrace.

America's strategic interests in the Middle East lie with the Arab countries. Israel is a strategic and economic liability. The U.S. government's slavish support of Israel brands us as a hypocrite and is responsible for most of the hostility toward the U.S.

Americans have been brainwashed into believing that it's the Arabs, and the Palestinians in particular, who don't want peace. That is a big lie. The Palestinians made an enormous concession when they agreed to settle for a state on 18 percent of Palestine. Saudi Arabia proposed several years ago a peace plan in which all of the Arab countries would recognize Israel in exchange for Israeli withdrawal from the occupied territories. The Israelis rejected it out of hand, just as they reject Arab efforts to have the Middle East a nuclear-free zone.

Israel's goal is and always has been to take all of Palestine and to get rid of the Palestinians. The Israelis employed ethnic cleansing in 1948 and again in 1967 to make hundreds of thousands of Palestinians refugees. For 40 years, the Israelis have refused to give back the Palestinian and Syrian lands they seized in war. They have blatantly violated international law by building settlements on occupied land, and by violating the airspace of other sovereign countries.

Palestinians are the victims, not the villains, in this case. The Israelis make their lives miserable in the hope they will give up and leave. At the same time, the Israelis, in cahoots with the American government, maintain a charade of proposed peace talks. They of course never come to fruition. The Israeli government is not about to allow the Palestinians to have a viable state. If they give the Palestinians anything, it will be a patchwork of enclaves completely surrounded and controlled by Israel. Having created 700,000 Palestinian refugees, the Israelis have from the beginning refused to allow them to return to their homes, farms and businesses, all of which Israel confiscated on the specious grounds that they were "abandoned property."

Without U.S. aid, which now is conservatively estimated to total $108 billion (think of the infrastructure and schools that amount could build in the U.S.), and without the U.S. wielding its veto every time the United Nations tries to act, none of this would be possible.

It is not just the Muslim world that hates our pro-Israel foreign policy, for sound reasons that it is unjust and cruel. Europeans and others around the world are contemptuous of America's slavelike obedience to a small foreign power. It has gotten to the point that to be seen as an ally of the United States is viewed negatively.

The Arab and Muslim people, with the exception of al-Qaeda, don't hate America or Americans. It is the pro-Israel foreign policy and, of course, our invasions of two Muslim countries that they hate. Virtually all of the anti-Arab and anti-Muslim propaganda generated in this country has its source in the Israeli lobby and in Israel itself.

Thanks to the unconstitutional largess of the cowardly Congress, Israel is a rich country and one of the world's leading military powers. It doesn't need American aid. It is time to quit dancing to the tune of a lobby with dual loyalties and to pursue America's interests.

Americans are being betrayed by their own politicians, and it's time to treat those scoundrels with the contempt they deserve.

Hey Slow Mo!

Of course my blog is a waste. Back in October, I announced my intention to take a vacation. I only came out of hiatus to celebrate Veterans Day with my fellow veterans. So you're having a go with a person who doesn't really pay much attention to her blog these days. Nya nya!

Right now I'm busy with my actual "day job" (which I love). I'll read and allow your other four comments to post the next time I feel like taking a break from it. No doubt you can find somewhere else to troll in the interim. See ya later, Honey!

"Comments are moderated, and will not appear on this weblog until the author has approved them."

My dear Schlomo: please pay attention to the fine print. I even have to approve my own comments.

I've allowed your treatise to publish. Now stop whining. (I'm sure the Marines that you're "around" all the time don't appreciate it.) I'll read it some other time. Right now I have more important things to read than antiwar tracts.

However here's something that, if you're intelligent and discerning enough, you may learn when you grow up: sometimes people aren't ignoring you because they disagree with you; they're ignoring you because they've more urgent things to do than toy with a faceless "antagonist."

Trust me, my vacation isn't permanent. Now run along, Little One.

I do sleep soundly because of the Mighty Marines - it's the Schlomos who give me the periodic nightmare.

Funny, the Marines and Army soldiers I work with don't even reflect the views of the anti-Zionist whiny troll Slow Mo. Maybe they didn't get the memo.

The fact that all he has cited to date comes from antiwar.com kinda gives it away, doesn't it? And the claim that the circle jerk of antiwar blogs all linking each other makes the linkage anything resembling real research is classic.

I agree with the first one who asked what part of this 'country's back' needed protection? There is no danger to anyone in America from Iraq, now or 5 or more years ago. clinton starved the hell out of them, then while down, we kicked them.

Who the hell are we protecting in America that people, sitting on their fat asses and posting hoo-rah all the time, get to spout their garbage?

Another stupid, right-wing and left-wing blogger or bloggerette.

Where are these children coming from?

Completely agree with this Shlomo character. We are protected by borders and oceans and nobody knows better than our military and our police and border units that we're an open sieve and anyone wishing to hurt us could very, very easily. To say the Marines are protecting us in America is a misnomer. Hell, even the National Guard, owned and operated and unde the conrol of each State's governor aren't allowed to protect Amercans on American soil. They're too busy ensuring, through 2, 3, 4, 5 and more deployments to war zones, that we don't have a draft. That sounds like a draft to me, however. When the tour of duty in Viet Nam was one twelve month tour for us, having these men and women serve 12 to 15 months so many times sure sounds ludicrous. And to think a 12 month Nam stint caused so many problems for so many people (and still does), it doesn't take a leap of thought to see what these vets will be like (10's of thousands already are) in one to four decades from now.

Saying we need protection inside our borders as has been said here is simply dishonest. But it makes it seem like bush's little war, which started its plans, as now know, on Jan 20, 2001 officially, but actually long before that, is a good thing and we should all be happy for it

America is the dumbest country, per capita, in the world, and that is even when pressed against 3rd world countries. We sit idly by while all this goes on, then believe the tripe arguments put for for us to squabble about, arguments that have no right or wrong, nor a difference even if there were.

Stupid.

Where are these children coming from?

See what happens when people drink, do drugs, and forget to wear their party hats after the clothes come off?

Boy, this far left, liberal scumbag press is just ALL over chubby boy scottie mcclellan's revelations that he lied, knew he was lying, and so did all of his bosses, right to the president. I mean, the NY Times, Wash Post, all the TV shows are just ALL over this puppy. Wait, no, wait, if it were scumbag (they're all scumbags) clinton, every news station would be hounding the hell out of this. But not bushie, and gee, good thing we were lied into everything going on now so that our military, my former cohorts, are there to 'have our back,' against some illusion of an enemy.

What a joke.

Don't you and you anti-Semitic friend have anything better to do than comment on blogs that are in hiatus?

What our tax dollars could do for America, but...
http://www.uruknet.info/?p=m38595&hd=&size=1&l=e

...so we prop up the most despicable nation in the present day world, then watch them "brag" at owning SO much of Manhattan, California, Hawaii, on and on. We're the true morons in this for letting it go.
http://onlinejournal.com/artman/publish/article_2670.shtml

[game spam removed]

Our tax dollars would work much harder if we were allowed to hold and disburse them ourelves, and keep them out of Teddy Kennedy's, Trent Lott's, etc. hands.

The Feds are good for interstate commerce, national defense, and what else?

I agree, we should do what Rudy my man says: fry all the arabs!

Rudy Who? And why should "we" do that?

From your earlier posts, it seems clear that you are correct, we should just wipe them out, like the other posters have said.

There's no room for any bleeding heart anything. Wipe them out and start over.

Oh, please protect us, Mr. and/or Mrs. Marine. We're in Middle America and under siege. The president of the US, one of the stupidest people on planet earth, is causing problems for us. Wait, you can't? Why the fuck not? You're "protecting us" by serving in Iraq? Why? Iraq had nothing to do with the US, agressionwise, right. (of course not). Didn't Ambo Gillespie tell Saddam 17+ years ago: fuck ya, got for it, Mensch. The Kuwaiti bastards having been side-drilling Iraq's oil (let alone Kuwaiti territory was Iraqi territory until British Petroleum came on the scene in 1949), were finally to be smoked out, and with US backing, thanks to Ambo Gillespie giving the 'go ahead,' direct from GHWG and James Addison Baker III. But wait, it gets thicker....

and this is where baldilocks, loving bullshit spiced with propaganda and no truthisms, fails to post this.

Story to conclude soon......
