"Hos before bros" (content alert)--or so contends feminist icon Gloria Steinem in defense of a Hillary Clinton presidential nomination as opposed to one for Barack Obama. Steinem attempts to demonstrate this by taking Obama's biography and turning it into that of a female.
THE woman in question became a lawyer after some years as a community organizer, married a corporate lawyer and is the mother of two little girls, ages 9 and 6. Herself the daughter of a white American mother and a black African father — in this race-conscious country, she is considered black — she served as a state legislator for eight years, and became an inspirational voice for national unity.No. And, as Captain Ed points out, Steinem is doing the Republican nominee a favor by making his case for him against both Clinton and Obama: neither has enough experience to become president, regardless of race or gender.Be honest: Do you think this is the biography of someone who could be elected to the United States Senate? After less than one term there, do you believe she could be a viable candidate to head the most powerful nation on earth?
Steinem goes on to try to explain why her missive isn't a "get behind the white woman, Negro" exhortation--even though it is--then ends with this:
This country can no longer afford to choose our leaders from a talent pool limited by sex, race, money, powerful fathers and paper degrees. It’s time to take equal pride in breaking all the barriers. We have to be able to say: “I’m supporting her because she’ll be a great president and because she’s a woman.”'Cause that historic first more important than all of the other serious issues that face this country, dontcha know. One wonders what Steinem has to say about the age-old manner in which Clinton has used to rise to her high perch--a manner that is the very personification of sexism: Clinton slept with the right person.

UPDATE: The break-up of the Clinton love affair with black American Democrats won't be pretty--but it will be entertaining.
