To Russia With Love--Or Something

Speaking of philanthropy, Georgians haven't lost their sense of humor, it seems. In response to Russian looters, Tbilisi residents set up a fine display of modern art and world-class snark in front of the city's Russian embassy (click photos to get larger versions).

Veronica Khokhlova has the English translation from Oleg Panfilov's blog.

To the Russian embassy in Tbilisi they brought old refrigerators, toilets, rolls of toilet paper, irons, bottles of vodka, forks and spoons, clothes and other objects that [looters from the Russian army] took interest in during their visits to private houses of Georgians, state institutions, military bases and army barracks.

People are coming up to have a closer look, shake their heads, laugh. Cars that are passing by are honking...

Now that's generosity!

UPDATE:Thanks, Glenn.

NOT SO FUNNY: "Russia can have at its borders only enemies or vassals."

What is the chance of any of those photos making it to Russian media?

Not too high, I would imagine.

I agree. Not zero though. Live Journal is partially owned by Russians.

Thanks, baldilocks. My mother once told me that your sense of humor will get you through more of life's tough spots than almost anything else. Other people's humor seems to help out a lot too!

LOVE it! My admiration for Georgians just went wayyy up!

The Russians aren't taking the toilets - it's the Ossetians. The sneaky buggers are plotting and scheming to rebuild their towns previously blasted by the Georgians. They're also liberating lumber and cement. The Georgians may be learning a lesson on starting fights they can't finish.

Russians are so pathetic. Here in Norway, they have become a laughing stock. While most of Eastern Europe is industrious, free and democratic, Russia is a backwater. Norway share a border with Russia, all we see coming across is drunks, prostitutes and the alike.

I think Georgi Josef may be right about the Russians not taking toilets; Russians don't know how to use a toilet, why would they take them?

As for the Ossetians taking toilets, they are probably upgrading their two-story outhouses.

Sven & Jajos:
I know what you guys mean. My Russian cousin designs laser range-finders, but he likes to poop in the trash bucket beside his workstation. It's genetic, I guess. My neighbours are Norwegian fishermen, and they're a bunch of drunks. They know how to use a toilet, but they vomit in the hedge between us when they get drunk. You never know how things are going to turn out.

Being of actual Caucasian descent, I can only say -- GOOOOO Georgia!!! I love people like that.

ha.

There's an ap story somewhere of some georgians playing backgammon. a kid lounges nearby. Pretty benign right?

Is that the world's most famous Gori native in the portrait?

Hehe I'm Norwegian and the comeback by "Georgi Josef" made me laugh nearly as hard as the pictures of the Georgian "humanitarian assistance" to the Russian Army.

To fellow Norwegians: there's no point pretending ^_^
