Check Your Premises

If there is such a thing as a 'moderate Muslim'--a term used often by the everyday press--and a 'moderate Muslim' is a good thing to be, is it good or bad to be and extreme Muslim or even a regular, normal everyday Muslim?  And after it is determined whether it is good or bad to be an extreme Muslim or a normal Muslim, it would be nice to know why either is good or bad.

Put this another way: if being a Muslim is good then why be a moderate one?

I'm in the middle of trying to have the conversation with someone who is so attached to 'All religions are evil" that the person just jams his fingers in his ears, clenches his eyes tight and shouts "You Christians are JUST AS BAD!!!"

You're right, we're in trouble. And it's the ancient battle of the followers of the God of Abraham against Amalek, both figuratively (in the form of destroyers of Christianity) and literally (in the form of Islam, the modern face, some feel, of Amalek). We have to defeat the Amalek in our own soul; we have to defeat those who would injure us in the "holy" name of "tolerance" and we have to defeat those who would actively prevent Christians from the free practice of their faith.

I like to think that my example is a better sword than the finest forged in Toledo, and my prayer the force behind it. Do nice things for people for no good reason, a friend once said, and best if they're people you don't get along with, they need to see examples of God's work in their life more than your friends do.

This is all hard. And frustrating. More so because of the idiots out there with their fingers in their ears. I know you'll keep the faith. Pray for me that I continue to have the strength.

It's the same thing with Christians, I like to think. Only, being a Christian, the issue of luke-warmity is a more pressing one for me! ;o/
